Child and Adolescent Posts in AWP NHS Trust (5 Posts)

The area served by the child psychiatry service of the Trust has a population of 360,000.  It is not coterminous with any county boundaries, and serves populations within the counties of Bath and North East Somerset (a part of old Avon) and Wiltshire.  The largest centre of population is Bath City; however, four-fifths of the population lives in small towns and villages across 760 square miles of the district.

The Child and Family Mental Health Service has three locality teams and a Tier 3/4 Adolescent team which serves the whole catchment area.  The three locality teams have bases at the 24 Combe Park, Bath, and in Chippenham and Trowbridge.  The Young People’s Service (YPS) is based in 24 Combe Park.

The placements are with the Consultant and multidisciplinary teams based in Bath (3), in Chippenham and with the YPS.

Clinical Meetings
Clinical presentations can be made on an occasional basis to weekly meetings held jointly with the adult and elderly services. The CAMH Service in AWP holds whole service meetings 3-4 times per year, which may be used for clinical, organisational or policy updates.

Library facilities Facilities are available at the Bath Postgraduate Medical Centre.  The Trust has an extensive e-library of the major text books.   The library staff are extremely helpful, for example in assisting with a literature search and acquiring reprints from the other NHS libraries and the British Library if requited.

 Research facilities
The Trust has an active Research and Development Department which will offer support when possible to trainees.

 Medical and Clinical Audit
These are ongoing and evolving.  The Specialist Registrar will be encouraged to undertake a project during their placements. There is a CAMHS clinical Audit Facilitator, who can assist with the planning of audits and seeking Trust approval for them.

 Special Interests
There are opportunities for special interest attachments to other Consultants in the area who have specific areas of expertise. These include Drug and Alcohol services for young people and Infant Mental Health.

 Management and Planning
There are opportunities to gain management experience by shadowing the CAMHS Business Unit Director and Service Manager with responsibility for CAMHS in AWP.
